Kevin F Tansley - Choir Administrator

Kevin joined the choir as a baritone or "First Base' in 1987 and by his own admission, 'loves every minute of it'.

The role of Choir Comptroller was established in the 1990s as a choir 'RSM' something that Kevin has done until March 2014 when he was elected Chair of the Choir.
Kevin has also been a choir soloist and Co Producer of some of our concerts. He took over the role of 'archivist' over 10 years ago and has developed an electronic record of all our songs sung, old programmes, photos etc. Specific singing highlights would have to be the two tours of Australia, singing at the entombment of the New Zealand Tomb of the Unknown Warrior and very concert or performance in between!

Kevin is hugely appreciative of the fact that the choir administration is very much a team effort making the role of 'Chair' very easy. All those who do everything from putting the chairs out at night to producing concerts do so in such a friendly and willing manner it make the Dunedin RSA Choir such a wonderful choir to belong to

Rosemary Tarbotton Bio – Assistant Director

I am first and foremost a singer with over 40 years' experience in both choral and solo singing. I have performed in opera and in musical theatre, both as a soloist and chorus member, and have belonged to a variety of choirs, including The Red Cross Choir, City Choir Dunedin, Knox Church Choir, Southern Consort of Voices and Cantores Choir.

Some years ago I decided to try my hand at conducting and that summer I took part in the University of Otago summer school conducting paper. After this I was hooked! Since then I have obtained an Associate Diploma in Choral Conducting through the St Cecilia School of Music and have attended various schools and workshops.

I spent two years as Assistant Director to Anthony Ritchie with the Southern Children's Choir (2009-2011) and also four years as Director of The Melrose Singers (2008-2012). I have also on occasion conducted the Knox Church Choir.

I am a member of the Choral Federation Otago Branch and Coordinator for the Otago/South Canterbury Regional Big Sing, and last year was Assistant Coordinator for the National Finale of the Big Sing held here in Dunedin.

I am honoured and pleased to be the Assistant Director of the RSA Choir and hope you enjoy the concert. The men work very hard to bring you their performance and I thank them for their efforts.

At Knox Church under Karen's direction, the choir produces a sung Mass at the evening service at the end of every month, a practice introduced by Karen to produce works which would otherwise not to experienced in the city, masses by Lotti, , Viadana, Vittoria, Casciolini, Schubert, Rheinberger, Dvorak, Britten etc. Karen has also produced many examples of the large choral repertoire; Faure's "Requiem", Bach "Wachet Auf, "Lobe den herren", "Jesu Meine Freude", Mozart "Requiem", Brahms "Requiem", Vivaldi's "Gloria", Mendelssohn's "Elijah", Haydn's "Creation", Handel's "Messiah", Haydn's "Mass in Time of War", Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" .Karen has also conducted Strauss' Die Fledermaus for Opera Otago.
